Director Pokes Fun at Critics of Abby’s Body Last of Us 2
The outrage from several corners of The Last of Us 2 fandom has expired considerably since the game released this June, or it has become less outspoken. Still, some fans won’t forget the homophobic remarks about Ellie and also a certain character death that resulted in the TLOU2 inspection bombing on Metacritic, the death threats to Abby’s VA, along with the criticisms within Abby’s body type. Twitter user @KharloKong introduced an open question within a tweet in the form of a picture of a screenshot from the favourite Disney film Tangled, where one character voices his opinion through a musical number and his ideas are so unpopular that more than a dozen people point swords at his throat. The Twitter user followed the picture with text that requested what video games remark attracted that type of reaction from particular people, with the implication clear as a result of Tangled’s widespread popularity.
Druckmann’s response to the tweet also needs a fundamental understanding of pop culture and the entire The Last of Us 2 controversy. Still, one huge implication is clear from the phrase “That female characters could be muscular?” And a picture of Joel putting his head in his hands. The importance is obviously that Druckmann considers Abby’s muscular body is very unpopular, but that he stands by the opinion despite the negative backlash, along with his use of Joel’s facepalm conveys his disappointment in lovers’ vitriol.
Of course, lots of individuals have pointed out that in a post-apocalyptic universe, it would make sense for characters to be built, particularly aggressive people like Abby, also that there’s not any similar backlash against exceptionally muscular male characters in video games.
