I Hope Nier: Automata’s Anime Can Replicate Its Best Moments
I tend to be warier of anime adaptations than I am movie adaptions. There are many good ones. There’s a Persona 5, The Animation, that attempts to make a 100-hour game into a series of anime. The problem with anime game adaptations is usually time. Because games are longer than other media, a season of anime cannot conceivably give the source material all it needs. Nier Automata is a great example of how Nier can adapt a game where the act itself is central to the best moments.
Square-Enix released a teaser video for the anime adaptation of Nina: Automata this morning. Although it doesn’t show much, the teaser lasts 30 seconds and ends with art by 2B and a pod looking off into the distance.
It is not clear how many episodes the Niner: Automataanime might include. We don’t yet know how long the animated story of A2, 9S, and 2B will be allowed to breathe. However, if you think about the most memorable moments of Nuer: Automata many of them were dependent on the interactive aspect. Particularly the final ending. We might see these moments added to the animation format, rather than it playing it straight.
