A classic real-time strategy that takes players back to an era when heroes fought monsters from legends and gods interceded in mortal affairs. You can use mythological creatures such as Minotaurs or Cyclopes in order to boost the strength of your army.
You can call on the gods to help you destroy enemy cities with meteors, or disperse opposing forces with lightning. Age of Mythology, like many real-time strategies, is built around defeating enemies and their towns. You can also build your own towns and units, as well as train villagers and fighters.
Players can defeat rival towns and conquer them this way. The player advances their tribe by advancing through the four “Ages”. Starting in the Archaic Age the player can upgrade to the Classical Age and then the Heroic Age.
Finally, they may advance into the Mythic Age. With each upgrade, the player gains new technologies and units that strengthen their settlement. Upgrades require a specific building and certain resources. In the age of mythology, there are three cultures that can be played.

The Age of Mythology has four main resources: wood, gold, and favor. Unlike previous Ensemble Studios games, the game doesn’t include stone. The resources can be used for a variety of things, including training units, building buildings, and researching technologies.
To gather resources, civil units are used, such as the Greek villages, Norse dwarfs and gatherers, Egyptian workers, and fishing vessels. Food can be collected by hunting animals, picking berries, harvesting cattle, farming, and fishing.
Gold can be obtained from gold mines, or by trading. Wood must first be cut down. Upgrades can be purchased to increase the rate at which gather resources. Favor can be earned in different ways depending on the culture.
For example, Greek players may gain favor by having their villagers build temples. Egyptians earn it through building monuments. Norsemen receive it when they fight/hunt animals or possess heroes. This is the only resource that cannot be traded at the player’s marketplace.
