EA Shutting Down Rory McIlroy PGA Tour and The Simpsons: Tapped Out in January 2025
Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that it will be shutting down the online services for Rory McIlroy PGA Tour on January 16, 2025, marking an end to the game’s online multiplayer features. Fans of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will no longer be able to access these features after this date, making it impossible to complete certain achievements and trophies tied to online gameplay. The game, which launched in 2015 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, was the first EA Sports golf title on eighth-generation consoles and was released without Tiger Woods as the namesake.
This shutdown follows a trend for EA, which has been gradually delisting and shutting down older titles. Several notable games are set for closure in November 2024, including FIFA 22 on November 4 and Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 (PS3/Xbox 360), Battlefield: Hardline (PS3/Xbox 360), and NBA Live 18 on November 7. This move is part of EA’s ongoing process of removing support for older games with diminishing player bases, though it impacts players who wish to preserve these titles in their complete forms.
Joining Rory McIlroy PGA Tour on the January shutdown list is The Simpsons: Tapped Out, a popular mobile game set to be delisted on October 31, 2024, though it will remain playable until its final shutdown on January 24, 2025.
While EA Sports PGA Tour’s online features are still active, fans speculate that it too could be discontinued in the future.
