Persona 5 Royal Does Not Have a PS5 Upgrade System. I’m Replaying On Switch

It is challenging to recreate a game as lengthy as Persona5 Royal. It’s not because the RPG isn’t great; it is. But because a 100-hour game time sink is much, mainly if you have played the game before. As we get closer to the game launch on PlayStation 5 and Switch, it seems that Atlus would want as few barriers as possible to allow people to buy the game. Perhaps an upgrade system between PS4/PS5 for those who have already purchased the game, like many companies do in this cross-generational stage of video game development? They’re not doing this. A Switch version will be available on the same day, so there is probably a better way for Persona5 Royal to be played.

The Persona Channel website has the latest news. It also includes a Q&A on the upcoming port. The questions include whether or not Persona5 Royal can be played and the differences between the final and original games. It then confirms that there will not be an upgrade system for people who have the game on PS4 or PS5. It doesn’t appear that you will be able to jump between generations cheaply.

However, I doubt I’d ever buy the game on PS5 because the Switch edition is what’s grabbing my attention now. Persona 5 and its definitive edition were the only mainline Persona games I have ever played on a TV. While Royal is a great game (and I even got a Ryuji tattoo), it was a much worse experience to play the game on my PlayStation 4 than Persona 3 Portable or Persona 4 Golden on my Vita. I was already tempted to replay the Phantom Thieves story on my PS5 at this point. This was only the tip of the iceberg. If you have the Switch, I recommend playing the game there. You’ll be a blessing to your neck and wrists.

All this assumes that the Switch version works as well as other versions. Although Persona 5 was also launched on PlayStation 3, it isn’t a challenging game to play. However, strange things have happened. If you are really into PlayStation trophies, the PS4 and PS5 versions will likely be considered separate products. You might receive two trophies if it is possible to platinum them again.
