Starfield’s Shattered Space Expansion and Patch 1.14.70: Fixes and Mod Support Improvements
Today marks the arrival of Starfield’s first major story expansion, Shattered Space, bringing cosmic horror and a deeper dive into the universe of space cultists. Alongside the new content, Starfield Update 1.14.70 drops a batch of fixes and improvements, primarily focusing on bug fixes and performance enhancements.
One of the key fixes addresses a modding issue that many players have been facing. Prior to the update, Starfield had a limit on the number of player-created “creations” (i.e., mods), capped at 255 plugins. While 255 might seem like a large number, many mods use multiple plugins, quickly pushing modding enthusiasts over the limit. Exceeding this threshold led to all kinds of game-breaking issues—missing buildings, quests that wouldn’t progress, and even players loading into voids rather than settlements. Thanks to the new patch, players can now install more mods without causing the game to fall apart, though mod creators will need to update their mods to take full advantage of this fix.
Another notable change addresses a bug with Annihilator weapons, which generated damaging clouds that indiscriminately harmed enemies, companions, and NPCs alike. Before the update, these clouds could unintentionally harm quest characters or companions, causing them to get upset or even leave the player’s party. The patch ensures these damaging clouds no longer affect friendly characters, saving players from unexpected in-game fallout.
While Update 1.14.70 doesn’t introduce significant new gameplay elements, it’s a critical step in improving the stability of the game, especially for the modding community. And with Shattered Space now available, players have plenty of new story content to explore in this ever-expanding universe.
