FarmVille Will End of Year at Shut Down

Zynga has announced that it will be shutting down FarmVille by the end of this season. The favorite Facebook game will continue to be playable until December 31st, 2020. In-app buys will be available up until November 17. In-game activities will also be available to mark the occasion. Zynga’s decision is a result of Adobe’s transfer to stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers and Facebook consequently planning to end service for all Flash games.

In a blog post, Zynga thanked the neighbourhood who have stuck with the match for 11 years. FarmVille premiered on June 19th, 2009 and has gone on to have sequels in FarmVille 2, FarmVille 2: Nation Escape, FarmVille two: Tropic Escape, and the upcoming FarmVille 3. The Facebook game is both fondly remembered and notorious for its addictive gameplay requiring players to ask friends for aid, filling up several consumers’ notifications. At its summit in March 2010, the game had 83.76 million monthly active users but continued to decrease in popularity after 2011.

Although FarmVille remains the very nostalgic IP for Zynga, the American social sport developer has continued to expand its library of games over the years with the acquisition of many companies and their possessions. Before this season, Zynga acquired Peak Games for $1.8 billion. The latter company, located in Istanbul, Turkey, is known for Toon Blast and Toy Blast.

In the end, the reduction of the first FarmVille will be only a little blip on Zynga’s radar. Even the San Francisco, California-based firm saw considerable growth this year despite (or maybe due to) the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, with Zynga stock being up 55.9percent.

Zynga has also worked on games that were licensed with Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells being published earlier this past week. The Match-3 puzzle game utilises the Harry Potter decorative and license and is available on mobile devices. While it may not be even close to fulfilling Harry Potter lovers until Hogwarts Legacy comes out, it could pass the time until then.

Though mobile gaming has its detractors due to its typically simplistic play and monetisation of game mechanics that may exploit children and those with addictive personalities, the industry remains highly profitable due its accessibility and ease of growth. Mobile games also have progressed far in the last ten years, with games such as Pokemon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite demonstrating the power of augmented reality on the platform for an exceptional experience. Mobile variations of console/PC games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty exhibit the increased power of smartphones.
