Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, an adventure video game from the Sherlock Holmes series, was developed by Frogwares. It is published by Focus Home Interactive. Sherlock Holmes is the main character, with Toby, Constable Marrow and Dr John Watson also available briefly. The majority of the game is about investigating crime scenes and looking for clues. Once the clues have been found, they are added to a “deduction board”, a game-play mechanic that links pieces of information together. This will allow for different deductions.
When deductions are linked together, players will see a complete tree of deductions. Different players will draw different conclusions depending on how they interpret the clues. The player can either succeed or fail to find the criminal. The player also has the option to exonerate or condemn the criminal. The game’s outcome will be affected by the moral choices made by the player. Each case will offer 3-5 solutions. In total, there will be 6-10 possible endings. The game features 14 investigation mechanics. This includes Sherlock Holmes’ ability to look at someone and deduce details about their lives.
