Hogwarts Legacy Unlikely to Use Unreal Engine 5, According to Job Post

Hogwarts LegacyThis is the year of the most ambitious array PotterVideogame project of all time, so it’s not surprising that the game is getting a lot of attention. Harry PotterFans rave about Hogwarts LegacySince its unveil trailer, I can’t wait for more. While it’s not clear when more information about the open-world action RPG will be available, an Avalanche Software job posting may confirm that the game won’t use Unreal Engine 5.

Avalanche is looking for a general artist for Hogwarts Legacy. The studio requires someone who has Unreal Engine 4 experience. Unreal Engine 5 is the most advanced and technologically superior version of Unreal Engine. Some fans might be surprised to hear that Hogwarts Legacy has been built using UE4. This could be a result of a few factors.

Hogwarts Legacy, for one, is a cross-gen title and will be released on PS4/Xbox One, PS5/XSX. Although Unreal Engine 5 can be used on older hardware, most Unreal Engine 5 projects will require next-generation hardware. To fully take advantage of Unreal Engine 5’s capabilities, it would be necessary to have a next-gen-only focus. Therefore, Avalanche should stick with Unreal Engine 4 for Hogwarts Legacy.

Another thing to remember is that Unreal Engine 5 technology is still relatively new, while Hogwarts Heritage has existed for many years. The Hogwarts Legacy was developed years before Epic Games released Unreal Engine 5. It wouldn’t make sense for developers to use the new tech instead of the existing Unreal Engine. The original release date for Hogwarts Legacy was set for this year, but it was later delayed to 2022. Therefore, it would not have made sense for developers to switch to Unreal Engine 5 last minute.

WhileLegacy of HogwartsAlthough Unreal Engine 5 may not be being used, and there are games in the pipeline that could be. There is evidence that suggests Unreal Engine 5 may be used in some games. New Mass Effect will be using Unreal Engine 5. EA’s Frostbite engine will be used instead, although nothing official has been confirmed yet.

Fans should keep their fingers crossed for Hogwarts Heritage. Hogwarts Legacy was rumoured for E3 but was a no-show, so perhaps it will appear at The Game Awards in December or maybe even the PlayStation Showcase event scheduled for September 9. Fans need to be realistic about their expectations.
