Is A Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Possible?

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has been hailed as one of the greatest games ever made. It features a compelling story, amazing boss fights and a haunting ending that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Konami is rumored to be licensing their most famous franchises in a remake. Konami is trying to get back into the gaming business, but are they trustworthy with the Metal Gear franchise.

Metal Gear Solid 3 – Snake Eater was released in 2004. It is a prequel to Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear series and focuses on Naked Snake who would become the evil Big Boss. The story follows Snake through a vast jungle as he battles his mentor, The Boss. Metal Gear Solid 3 was released to great critical acclaim. Many praised its story, gameplay enhancements and unique setting. It has also won many awards. IGN named the game “best overall action” and “best story”, as well as “best new character” in its Best of 2004 Awards.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is a classic that has remained in the hearts of many. It’s often listed on lists of the greatest PS2 games. Metal Gear Solid 3 was long considered dead after Kojima left Konami. However, a remake or Snake Eater could bring the franchise back.

A Metal Gear 3 game would fill that gap in the current gaming market. Konami made the right decision by remaking Metal Gear Solid 3. This fan-favourite series has a remarkable 9.2 score on Metacritic. It’s safer to tell the Snake Eater story than risking tarnishing the legacy of the franchise by creating a new entry, considering that the story has already been written. Konami has already fallen short in this regard with the 2018 release of Metal Gear Survive. Fans want to be able to play again as Solid Snake, the series’ hero. However, a remake Metal Gear Solid 3 would make a great jumping point for new players.

The foundations for gameplay are already in place. Metal Gear Solid V introduced open-world exploration and the vast jungle of Tselinoyarsk is just waiting to be explored in Metal Gear Solid 3. Contrast this with Outer Heaven or Shadow Moses, which have much more linear environments. Remakes also allow for new gadgets, vehicles, and stealth suits. A revamped weather system can also be included, along with day and night cycles. This is especially important since Metal Gear Solid 3 is focused on survival in harsh jungle environments as well as stealth.

Metal Gear Solid 3 has some of the most memorable boss fights in the series. Naked Snake is defeated by The Boss’ Cobra Unit, elite veterans and the best of their respective fields. The boss battle against The End (a centenarian sniper) is one of the most memorable moments in the original game. The End is a fierce sniper who has been threatening the players in a forest area. Players must either take him down or wait for nature’s blessing. You know what you are doing. Moments such as these, which are already cinematic and masterful, could be elevated to a new level by a modern remake.

Remaking a title like this is a big undertaking for both studios and publishers. The right tools can help you make it a success. The introduction of the Fox Engine in Metal Gear Solid V, The Phantom Pain took the series to new heights. It allowed for open-world gameplay, photo-realism and seamless transitions between cutscenes and gameplay. One fan even managed to recreate environments from Metal Gear Solid 3 with Fox Engine. However, it is likely that Konami and Virtuos won’t go this route as the engine is somewhat outdated.

Pro Evolution Soccer was the first series to use the engine, outside of Metal Gear. However, they have since switched to Unreal Engine 5 for their games. Unreal Engine 5 will likely be used to produce a modern remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. With a next-generation engine, elements of the Fox Engine that made Metal Gear Solid V such a success could be duplicated or even exceeded.

David Hayter, who is the voice of Big Boss and Solid Snake, is the elephant in the room. Although it seems unlikely that Hayter will return to the role, it would restore some fan loyalty. Maybe Oscar Isaac will be cast in the interim. The Metal Gear Solid movie is still being made. Isaac playing the role of Big Boss and Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid would be very meta.
