Halo Infinite was revealed at the Xbox Series X unveil event last year. There were many complaints, both valid and not so. As so often happens, a core complaint eventually became a meme, this time in the form of a screenshot of a brute that the internet affectionately/mockingly named Craig.

According to strangely clinical meme database, Know Your Meme “On July 23rd, Ali Kay wrote that the first known instance of someone calling the Brute Craig was when they posted in the Halo Plasmaposting: ‘We’re calling Craig idc whatever you say’. In less than a week, the post received over 1,500 responses and 290 comments.

Craig was acknowledged by 343 employees later that day and they kind of lean into the meme. It makes perfect sense that Craig is a comparison point for the improved graphics, after the one-year delay in addressing graphical concerns. Halo Infinite ‘s campaign was shown once more. This glow-up was brought to the forefront by 343 in a blog posting last night.

Steve Dyck, the character and combat director for the game, says that Craig is a “love-hate relationship” amongst his team. “While Craig was a fun character to watch, there were some systems and content that weren’t ready for prime-time in that demo.

Bryan Repka, character art lead, said, “Craig’s in good hands, believe me!” He has made some adjustments, but I’m happy to report that he is now looking good. He feels great about himself and is able to fit in with his Brute friends. He also found a new hobby that he enjoys and is doing well. Craig, long live!

There you have it. His beard really frames his face, and he also has a mohawk. He now seems more interested in being there than the thousand-yard state that characterized his encounter with Master Chief last January.
