Nintendo’s Switch is a huge success. The Kyoto-based company has invested in multiple expansions using the profits. In a meeting after the company’s latest financial report Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo president, presented some of the company’s future plans. Some of these plans could include new acquisitions (thanks to VGC).

Furukawa stated that Nintendo has invested approximately $2.6 billion to increase the value of its Nintendo Account services. The goal is to expand “the ways Nintendo Accounts are able to serve as the foundation for providing better experiences and better service for consumers.” Furukawa did not give any examples of how Nintendo would do this.

The expansion of Nintendo’s non-game entertainment and game development efforts will see $880 million and $440 millions respectively. Furukawa suggested that this could include the acquisition of new studios but said no plans to do so in near future.

Furukawa stated that “In a business experiencing extreme fluctuations such as the entertainment industry, the fundamental policy of our financial activities was to secure cash and liquid assets so that we can continue offering products and services which continually deliver new surprises.”

“The goal is not to promote digitalization, but to create a unique Nintendo service infrastructure that leverages our integrated hardware-software businesses.”
