Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will get a rollback netcode after launch

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is just weeks away from its launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on March 17. Atlus has confirmed that the game won’t get rollback netcode until the summer but will not be available for the Switch.

Producer Kazuhisa WADA made this announcement in a video. He confirmed that rollback netcode would be added to the PlayStation 4 and PC. The Switch will still use the same delay-based netcode as the original PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 game in 2014. Rollback netcode is preferred to delay-based netcode, as any delay in in-game action can significantly impact a fighting match. You can find more information on this topic at ArsTechnica.

Atlus’ Persona4 Arena Ultimax port was one of many projects Atlus had in the works for the Persona series 25th anniversary. We have not heard anything about any new games being developed as part of this anniversary. I had hoped for a Persona5 Arena game where the Phantom Thieves would join the roster. However, the Ultimax port makes me less optimistic that it’s happening. The entire campaign will continue until 2022, so we still have time to see announcements. Hopefully.

Persona 5 Strikers was the most recent Persona game. It featured the main characters from Persona 5. However, it didn’t carry on the Persona 5 Royal story, so some characters didn’t appear, and some story beats weren’t expanded upon. We don’t yet know if there are any Persona5games, so it’s not clear if we should dismiss Royal.
