While each title has its features, the core gameplay elements are the same.
The player takes on the role of a Pokemon who was transformed from a human and is found by their Pokemon partner at the beginning of the game. The personality test will be required before the game can begin.
This will determine which Pokemon the player is playing in the game (except for the WiiWare and Gates to Infinity games, Super Mystery Dungeon, where a player can choose their starter).
The game is based on a classic Roguelike game. Players navigate a randomly generated dungeon together with their Pokemon team.
The player’s movement and actions are turn-based. They can use basic attacks and Pokemon moves as well as items.
After the first mission, the game begins with one partner Pokemon. However, the player can quickly recruit any other Pokemon they find in the dungeon to their team.
