Xbox Classic Games: Over 1,400 games added to the service
Xbox users now have unlimited access to 1,400 retro and classic video games thanks to Antstream Arcade, a subscription-based service.
Antstream Arcade is available on Xbox and PC.
Over 1,400 games are available, including titles for consoles such as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), ZX Spectrum (ZX Spectrum), Commodore 64, and PlayStation 1. The service allows players to play full games, or hundreds of mini-games, from the entire game collection. They can be as simple as completing a game with only one life or going after the highest score.
Some of the most popular titles are Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat. Super Star Wars is also a great choice.
You can choose between a 12-month subscription for PS29.99 or an unlimited lifetime access package for PS79.99. It’s not cheap but it is worth it if you plan to play the games for some time.
The emulation is excellent, the graphics look great on modern displays, and a second controller can be connected for cooperative play if this appeals to you. It’s a shame that the controls don’t match the games you are playing and can’t be changed.
The digital keyboard is also used for games that originally required a keyboard. This can be a little cumbersome to use at times. The collection offers great value and the games are all well-suited to the streaming service.
The collection also shows how gaming can be preserved. In recent studies, around 87% of retro games have been lost over time. This is mainly due to the physical copies being destroyed or disappearing, and also because there is no current-gen port for obscure titles. Many games, which many people will never have heard of before, are now available for modern consoles. This is great news for those who want to keep the classics alive and accessible to new audiences.
