After players complained about self-replicating malicious code, the original Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 2009 servers were taken offline.

In recent times, Call of Duty has been divided into two distinct halves. On one hand, the players are angry at Warzone. Nicki Minaj, a kitten, and 21 Savage have been named as the new operators. This is something that you would not have expected when Warzone was first released. To everyone’s delight, the old Call of Duty titles are now available on Xbox. Call of Duty Black Ops II and Modern Warfare 3 both saw massive increases in player numbers following matchmaking updates. Xbox Series X Consoles began to sell out as CoD Fans flocked in droves. The OG Modern Warfare 2 is now unavailable on Steam.

reports that Activision has taken the Steam servers of this game offline. PC gamers reported hacked lobbies and some very severe ones. According to reports, hackers were infecting other players with an auto-spreading virus. Devs posted on the official Call of Duty Updates Twitter account that “Multiplayer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 2009 Steam has been taken offline as we investigate reports of a problem.”

Wacatac.B.ml was detected for the first time by players back in June, but developers did not seem to take action until well past a month later. PC Gamer also stated that this malware is “coded for MW2”, as per a Steam forum member.

On 26 July, a tweet was posted announcing that the servers would be shutting down. Steam’s servers are still offline as of 31 July. We don’t know how long the temporary shutdown will last, but we are keeping our eyes open for any updates.
