Underground revived the series in a way that was different from the previous Need for Speed games which included exotics and sports cars.
Underground was the first game that offered the option of a career-based mode with an actual storyline as well as a garage mode that let players modify their vehicles by incorporating a variety of performance options and modifications.

Need for Speed: Underground 2 offers a variety of enhancements, including expanded customization and innovative methods to select races, an “explore” mode, and the city of “Bayview”. Bayview is a city in the United States.
City Center was based in Philadelphia, Beacon Hill was inspired by Beverly Hills, and Coal Harbor was inspired by Camden, New Jersey, and Bayview overall is an example of a microcosmos located on the West Coast of the United States. Brooke Burke is the voice of Rachel Teller, the person who assists the player during the entire game.
