Rumors suggest that the classic Greek-era God of War games may soon be remastered for modern consoles, just in time for the series’ 20th anniversary. According to a report from Need4Games, an insider claims that multiple remasters of God of War titles are in development for the PlayStation 5. These remasters are said to include the original God of War trilogy, the portable spin-offs (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta), and the 2013 prequel God of War: Ascension.

These remasters will reportedly be handled by Nixxes, a Sony developer known for PC ports, and could be announced in March 2025 to celebrate the franchise’s debut in 2005. If true, this would be the first time many of these games have been available on modern consoles since the PlayStation 3 era. Currently, only God of War 3 has been released on PS4, with the older titles accessible only through PS Plus subscriptions.

Though this is still an unconfirmed rumor, PlayStation has been increasing its remasters, such as the upcoming PS5 release of Horizon Zero Dawn. Given that most of the original God of War games aren’t currently available on modern systems, fans of Kratos may finally get to experience his Greek mythology roots next year.

Stay tuned for official announcements as we get closer to the 20th anniversary!
