Resident Evil is one of the most influential horror game franchises of all time. Together with Clock Tower and Silent Hill, Resident Evil helped pioneer the survival horror genre with its initial release. The franchise has come a ways since then, and is going to break ground on a brand-new CG movie.

Resident Evil has been adapted for theatre before. There were a collection of movies starring Milla Jovovich released from the early 2000s before 2016. While a reboot of this very first Resident Evil movie in this show was declared in 2017, no official information was unveiled regarding the movie’s release. Meanwhile, fans of this series have a new slice of Resident Evil press to anticipate on Netflix.

A trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil CG film has been published on the official Netflix Portugal Twitter page. This film is the second Resident Evil exclusive content confirmed to be in the works to get the streaming service, since there’s also a live activity Netflix Resident Evil TV series. But this film seems to be taking rather a different strategy.

Not only is the film completely in CG, it also appears to have taken a few notes from the recent remakes of earlier Resident Evil games concerning design and style. The trailer opens with a young woman exploring a decrepit property. Inspired by her red leather jacket, it could be Claire Redfield, but she seems older than Claire therefore it is too early to tell. The woman finds a dead body surrounded by shotgun shells, along with the movie cuts to its name card.

After the title card fades off, the teaser shows one man saving another from a zombie. The guy is shown to be Leon Kennedy, one of the most recognizable faces in Resident Evil. Leon appears to be wearing a suit, meaning that the spectacle likely takes place after some elaborate occasion, but Leon’s presence in this film ultimately leads to more questions than answers.

Based on what was shown, it’s hard to pin down where exactly from the Resident Evil timeline this film takes place. Leon looks similar to his design in the remake of Resident Evil two , with the accession of some facial hair. If the woman in the start is Claire Redfield, then it is possible this film occurs following the incident at Raccoon City. Finally, fans will have to wait for Netflix to unveil an official trailer until they can learn more.
