Genshin Designs and Other Outfits for Characters Following Chinese Censorship
MiHoYo has announced that four of their characters will be getting minor redesigns, but many fans believe it’s more Chinese censorship and less redesign. These changes are being considered complete changes for Chinese players. The in-game models will be updated to reflect these new designs. Players in China won’t have any say since Mona, Jean and Rosaria will receive these new designs.
These new skins are available to players and audiences outside China. The new skins don’t make much of a difference, so it is believed that these changes are censoring. Most characters now have less skin and cleavage. China has very strict censorship laws that can affect characters in games.
The country has even gone so far as to ban games that depict “homosexuality” or “pregnancy before marriage” This means any content that is too sexually explicit or revealing in character art will be quickly and efficiently redesigned to avoid a complete block in China. Many games, particularly those based in China, like MiHoYo, want to avoid any bans for the Chinese market. Genshin Impact is a Gacha-based game that is already anti-gambling.
Amber, Mona and Jean are the affected characters. These changes are not noticeable, however. By covering any chest skin or removing any cleavage, the main objective is to make characters less visible.
There is no release date for these skins. We don’t think it will take longer, but they will likely make these changes quickly for the Chinese audience.
Fans aren’t sure if this content will be paid for, but they hope that it won’t cost them anything.
It’s important to note that this new censorship will likely affect future characters. MiHoYo may release two sets of skins. One for Chinese players, the other for western users. However, if we are being pragmatic, they will likely release all characters with designs that comply with China’s censorship laws.
