Insiders claim that Sony will launch a new PlayStation console in September

Sony has not officially confirmed the launch of a PlayStation 5 in the near future, but it seems that rumors are circulating about the upcoming console. For almost a full year, the rumors are gaining momentum. The latest news is that an insider knows when it will be launched.

Sony has become a leader in mid-generation consoles. When we looked back at the PlayStation 4 we saw the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim. We’ve been three years in the PS5 lifecycle, so it’s easy to understand why people ask: what’s next? Insiders spoke about a new PS5 last year. It has been referred to as the PS5 Slim, but its main characteristic is that it if it’s real, features a removable disc drive. Sony currently produces both the standard and digital versions of PS5. This new design would only require one base. The players could decide whether they want to buy the optional drive.

Take this news with a grain of salt as Sony has not confirmed the existence of this detachable PS5 disc drive. It’s hard to ignore the fact that so many people have mentioned it in the past year. It’s hard to deny that the rumors are convincing. A source claims that he knows when the console is going to be unveiled. XboxEra Podcaster Shpeshal_Nick tweeted, “I heard that there was most likely going to be a PlayStation show in August and there were plans to unveil the Slim at this event.” Perhaps they are going sooner to counter the Xbox/ABK announcement?

FandomWire added a report that said this might lead to the release in September. Take all this news with a grain of salt. Nick isn’t the only one whispering about an upcoming Sony showcase. To say the least, Summer Game Fest’s PlayStation Showcase was a disappointment. The majority of the games shown were cross-platform. Sony revealed very little information about its upcoming releases, other than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

A PS5 advertisement released early this year appeared to include a Ghost of Tsushima II video and footage that many assumed was from an Uncharted reboot. Sony has not confirmed either. Rumors are also circulating about being remastered for The Last of Us Part II on PS5. Sony would have plenty of things to discuss if they held a showcase in August.
